WhatsApp API without Meta approval
You can connect a WhatsApp number to your own systems without registering it with Meta. You link the number you already use, the same way WhatsApp Web is linked, then send and receive through an API. This page says what that gives you, what it does not, and the risk to know before you build.
How it works
- Link your number. Open WhatsApp on the phone and scan a QR code. The number is connected in about a minute.
- Send and receive through one API. Your system sends with one request, and gets replies and delivery updates by webhook.
- Keep using the phone. The app works as before, and messages typed on it show in your panel and your webhooks too.
There is no business verification, no template to get approved and no waiting.
What you get
- Your existing number. Customers keep writing to the number they know.
- No fee per message. A plan is priced by how many numbers you link.
- What the app sends: text, files, voice notes, stickers, polls, locations and contact cards, in one-to-one chats, groups and channels.
- A panel for people who do not write code: a team inbox, auto-replies, and an AI agent that answers with your own AI key.
- Tools you already use: a WooCommerce plugin, n8n workflows, and an MCP server for AI agents.
What you give up
"Without Meta approval" also means "not Meta's official API". Be clear about that before you choose.
- It is unofficial. Threadwire is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by WhatsApp or Meta. WhatsApp's terms do not allow unofficial or automated access to WhatsApp. That is what any service that links a number as a device provides, Threadwire included. WhatsApp can restrict or ban a number at any time.
- Few new people a day. A number may write first to only a limited number of new people each day, and no plan lifts that limit. Replies to people who wrote to you are not limited this way.
- No templates, no buttons and no verified badge. A message is what a person could type or attach in the app.
- The phone stays. Keep WhatsApp on it, and let it go online now and then.
How Threadwire lowers the risk
Every message is paced the way a person would send it, with "typing…" first. A newly linked number warms up over its first two weeks. New people are limited each day. When WhatsApp warns a number, its new chats slow down and then pause on their own. Anyone who writes "STOP" is not messaged again until they write to you again.
These rules are enforced on every message, on every plan: you can make them stricter, never switch them off. We still cannot promise that a number will not be banned. How Threadwire keeps your number safe has every rule, with its figures.
Is it right for you?
A linked number fits when your customers write to you first: bookings, orders, support, reminders to people already in a chat with you, and signing users in with WhatsApp OTP.
Take Meta's official API instead if any of these is true:
- You need to write first to many new people a day from one number.
- You plan advertising or campaigns that reach many people at once.
- You need the verified badge.
Threadwire does not offer the official API today. Official API or a linked number? compares the two in detail.
