Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
Threadwire is for conversations between businesses and the people they serve. This policy applies to everyone who uses it, and is part of our Terms of Service. Breaking it can get your account suspended. More often, it gets your number banned by WhatsApp first.
Message people who expect to hear from you
- Message people who have written to you, or who gave you their number and agreed to hear from you about what you are writing about.
- In a first message, say who you are and why you are writing. Keep it short.
- Stop when someone asks you to. When someone replies only "STOP" or an equivalent, Threadwire stops sending them anything from any of your numbers until they write to you again (a message within ten minutes of the "STOP" does not count). It cannot stop messages typed on the phone itself, so do not send those either, and do not work around it. Honour requests to stop that reach you any other way too.
Not allowed
- Bulk or unsolicited messages, including marketing to bought, rented, collected or guessed lists of numbers.
- Checking bought, rented, collected or guessed lists of numbers to find out which are on WhatsApp. Check only the numbers of people who gave them to you.
- Getting around Threadwire's limits: for example, spreading one campaign across many numbers or accounts, or relinking a number to reset its limits.
- Linking a number that is not yours, or that you are not allowed to use.
- Content that is illegal, fraudulent, deceptive or harmful: scams, phishing, malware, impersonating another person or business, harassment, threats or hate.
- Any content that sexualises children.
- Asking people for passwords, full card numbers or similar secrets.
- Selling or promoting goods or services that are illegal, or that WhatsApp's own policies forbid.
- Attacking, overloading, probing or copying Threadwire, or using it to attack others.
- Reselling Threadwire, or giving people outside your business access to it, without our written agreement.
What we do
To stop a breach, we may hold or refuse messages, pause a number's first messages to new people, or suspend an account. We tell you why when we do. We may report illegal content to the authorities.
