WhatsApp order updates for WooCommerce
Send your WooCommerce buyers their order updates on WhatsApp, from the number your shop already uses. A plugin adds a button after checkout, and updates go only to buyers who tap it and write to you first.
How it works
- The buyer sees a button. After checkout, the thank-you page and the order email show "Get order updates on WhatsApp".
- The buyer writes first. The button opens WhatsApp with a message about the order already typed. They only press send.
- The order is linked to their chat. The message carries the order's reference, so the plugin knows which order that phone asked about. The buyer gets a confirmation.
- Each status sends an update. When the order reaches a status you chose, such as processing, completed or cancelled, the buyer gets the message you wrote for it.
Why the buyer writes first
WhatsApp bans numbers that message people who never wrote to them. Here every update is a reply in a chat the buyer started, so updates are not limited as first messages.
- Only the phone that asked gets updates, from the number it wrote to, and only for a time after its message. Past that, the order's notes say why none was sent.
- Nobody can claim someone else's order. The reference is checked with a secret only your shop has, and the first phone to send it keeps the order.
- A buyer can stop. They reply STOP, and Threadwire sends them nothing more until they write again.
What you set
- A message for each order status. Leave one empty to send nothing for it.
- Your own words, with the buyer's first name, the order number, the total, the status and your shop's name filled in.
- A stop for one order. Staff can stop updates for an order from its Order actions.
Each update is noted on the order, and so is the reason when one is not sent.
Its limits
- Not every buyer gets updates. A buyer who does not tap the button and send the message gets none.
- Updates are text that you write.
- WhatsApp may not share a buyer's number. Then no update can be sent, and the order's notes say so.
- Threadwire's rules still apply to every update: the buyer's STOP, the pace of sending, and any limit your plan has. How Threadwire keeps your number safe has every rule.
Threadwire links your number as a device; it is not Meta's official API. WhatsApp API without Meta approval says what that means. Replying only to buyers who wrote lowers the risk, but we still cannot promise that a number will not be banned.
Who it is for
A shop on WooCommerce that wants buyers to follow their orders on WhatsApp, without messaging anyone who did not ask.
It is not for sending offers to every buyer, or for writing first to people who never wrote to you. If you plan campaigns that reach many people at once, take Meta's official API. Threadwire does not offer it today.
Start
You need a Threadwire account with a linked WhatsApp number, and WooCommerce active on your site. Download the plugin and install the zip in WordPress (Plugins → Add New → Upload). The WooCommerce guide has every step, from the API key to the webhook.
